Rocko was a pelican who lived on an island by the sea with a hundred other pelicans. In the winter Rocko went to school with the other pelican kids. In the summer he played by the beach all day looking for seashells and flying high above the waves.

One summer day Rocko was playing by the beach when his friend Chipper landed beside him. “What are you doing?” asked Chipper. “Looking at my seashell collection,” said Rocko.

“Cool,” said Chipper, “we should go out to the cliffs by Mr. Kelp’s and look for pirate ships.” Chipper was a laughing gull and had been Rocko’s friend for three summers.

The kids soared above the beach, floating up and down in the warm summer breeze. “Look!” said Chipper. “There’s Digger. Let’s stop and see what he’s doing.”

A simple lesson of friendship and family trust unfolds in this adventure of Rocko the Pelican by Carl Pollock. Children of all ages will want to read this colorful tale from Blueberry Key again and again.
